India Gate: Another very important monument, located in the heart of Delhi is India Gate. It is built in the memory of 70,000 soldiers who lost their life in World War I. Later the Amar Jawan Jyoti (the eternal flame burning day and night) was added in 1971 as a memorial of soldiers who lost their life in the Indo -Pakistan war. Qutab Minar: It is a 73 meter high tower. It was built by Qutab-ud-din Aibak as a symbol of victory for defeating of Delhi’s last hindu kingdom. It is also a UNESCO world heritage site. It is a tallest tower in India with divided in 5 storeys. The lower 3 storeys are made of red sandstones & upper two are made of marbles & sandstone. It is accompanied by is the first mosque built in India, Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque. 

 

Lotus Temple:  It is lotus flower shaped temple with 27 petals made up of white marble. Lotus is considered as a common symbol of Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism & Islam so, that all the followers can come & pray in the temple. Raj Ghat: It is located on the banks of Yamuna river and is a memorial of the father of nation - Mahatma Gandhi. As the spot of Mahatma Gandhi’s cremation, it is marked by black marble platform. At the north of Raj Ghat, there is Shantivan known for Jawaharlal Nehru's Samadhi. Other memorials in Raj Ghat are of Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, etc.
